Music Education Consultant

Design curricula and guidelines in compliance with international music examinations standards for teachers in courses including music theory, rudiments, harmony, counterpoint, ear training, sight reading, composition, solfege, performance technique and repertoire development for solo/chamber/orchestral work; Design teaching methods for courses in musical instruments including piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, classical guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums and percussive instruments; Meet with individual music teachers twice per week for a period of 2 - 3 hours to teach new methods, advice of changes to curriculum and review student progress; Observe teachers at work to assess effectiveness of teaching methods; Recommend changes in personnel or teacher assignments; Communicate with international music college teachers and other music educators to exchange ideas and learn new methodologies; Recommend purchase of teaching aids, equipment and music.

Minimum Requirements - a Master's degree in Education and one year experience as instructional/education coordinator.

As a music education consultant, Ronald Barcenilla develops and restructures educational programs and teaching guidelines in piano and voice performance as well as theory to include rudiments, harmony, counterpoint, composition, score-reading, analysis, and history in preparation for international proficiency examinations of prestigious examination boards leading towards diploma, certification, and entrance matriculation to universities and colleges.

He is also the representative of Trinity College London, the International Examinations Board, for Los Angeles and San Diego (U.S.A.) and the American College of Musicians for Sydney (Australia).

Primary Teachers

Primary teachers serve as liaison teachers to the education consultant to meet the subject and curriculum requirements of the chosen international examination board as well as the internal criteria of assessment. They may travel to any of our locations to give students full access to the music education process at an international level.

Minimum Requirements - a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music (with a major/minor/units studied in at least two subjects of instruction) and one year of teaching experience.

Jacqueline Perry teaches all levels of instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, and music theory with emphasis in the traditional styles.

Education: Bachelor of Music (Performance) and Bachelor of Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Experience/Awards: Has served as Jackson Public Schools String Teacher (1991-2000); Jackson State University Adjunct Violin Instructor (1992-1994); Conductor of the Mississippi Youth String Orchestra (1993-1995); Director of Education for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (1994-2002); Music literature and Instrumental Teacher at Power Academic Performing Arts Center (2002-2004); Member of the Magnolia String Quartet (1990-2004); recipient of the award 'Outstanding Music Educator' in 1995 bestowed by the Mississippi Music Educators' Association and Chamber of Commerce.

Matthew Riskam teaches all levels in guitar, singing, piano, with emphasis in jazz, blues, reggae, pop, rock, contemporary genres, as well as theory and original material (composition).

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Theater from Loyola University, Chicago; attends graduate courses in performance and composition at the Musicians Institute (Hollywood, California).

Experience/Awards: Has taught at various schools; filled three CD's with his own compositions, most of which have been played nationally in the USA over satellite radio on D.C. 101; performed in front of large crowds of 8,000; integrated teaching experience in guitar to win 'Featured Performer' for the 29th annual music revue; created a residence hall community emphasizing the mission statement of Loyola University; received 'Outstanding Resident Assistant' award in 2002 from Loyola University, Chicago.

Lydia Mulkey teaches all levels and styles in singing and music theory as well as pre-school music education, special education and students with learning disability.

Education: Candidate towards a Master's degree in Music Education (USC), Bachelor of Music (Magna Cum Laude from Belmont University).

Experience/Awards: Assistant Conductor and Vocal Coach (Nashville Children's Choir), Children's Choir Coordinator (Forest Hills Baptist Church), Applied Behaviour Analysist Therapist (Heart for Autism), Preschool Clinician (Nashville and Jackson), Teaching Assistantship (USC), Belmont University Music and Academic Scholarships.

Melissa Garner teaches all levels in clarinet performance and music theory.

Education: Candidate towards a Master's degree in Music Education (USC), Bachelor of Music in Performance (Summa Cum Laude, University of Alabama, AL).

Experience/Awards: Students have received top positions in competitions and honor bands; clarinetist for Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Florida State Chamber Music Festival, Indiana University Summer Music Festival; 1st place: MTNA Southern Division Competition, University of Alabama Conceto Competition, MTNA Young Artists State Competition.

Daniel Knowles teaches all levels and styles in singing and music theory.

Kristopher Hawkins teaches all levels and styles in electricand acoustic guitar, classical guitar, drum programming, midi programming, keyboards, clarinet, bagpipes as well as music theory and song writing.

Secondary Teachers

Secondary Teachers are the actual hands-on teachers. The secondary teacher normally works with a primary teacher and at times they swap roles for longer or shorter periods of time. The secondary teacher is such by name only, but carries at least the same level of qualifications as the primary teacher. They are in charge of specific subject - curriculum units and may at times share one or more units of instruction if necessary.

Minimum Requirements - a Bachelor of Music of Bachelor of Arts in Music (with a major/minor/units studied in at least two subjects of instruction) and one year of teaching experience.

Replacement Teachers

Replacement Teachers are put in charge in the event of a teacher - absence beyond the teacher's control or whenever a primary or secondary teacher is in absentia from teaching duties. They are as highly qualified as primary and secondary teachers.

Minimum Requirements: a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music (with a major/minor/units studies in at least one subject of instruction) and one year of teaching experience.
