The School Year

Lessons are conducted year-round.

Holidays

There are four weeks of holidays in the summer, normally in the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August, and the last two weeks of December and the first two weeks of January. Actual dates for the summer holidays are posted no less than two months in advance. Students can nominate to continue with lessons through this period. This time is also used for additional lessons which may be deemed necessary in preparation for examinations or the more advanced levels.

Statutory Holidays

New Years Day
Independence Day
Thanksgiving Day
(These times may also be used for additional lessons in anticipation of examinations.)

Lessons are Conducted on these Holidays

Memorial Day, Civic holiday, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day. Students may not miss lessons that fall on these dates unless a 48-hour notice for a make-up is given to the teacher.

Holy Days of Observance may have lessons moved provided a 48-hour prior notice is given to the teacher, such as: Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Day (students who observe Christianity); Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Hanukkah (students who observe Judaism); Ramadan (students who observe Islam).

Program-enrolled students must adhere to forty-eight (48) weeks of lessons per year, no more than four (4) weeks of holidays and the statutory holidays listed above per year. Failure to do so will enable the director to enroll them as non-program enrolled, in which case they will be unable to participate at any examination or performance. Non-program enrolled students may consume up to twelve (12) weeks of holidays per year as they are not subject to criteria of assessment, examinations, recitals, festivals, and competitions.

Missed and Make-up Lessons

Although make-up lessons may be given for absences with no less than 48-hours prior notice to the teacher, they are NOT GUARANTEED, nor are fees credited. Teacher-absence guarantees a make-up lesson but under no circumstances are fees credited. Students who do not abide by make-up lessons and credit fees as a result will be shifted from program-enrolled to non-program enrolled. Those who regularly skip and/or change their scheduled times may eventually get cancelled from the lessons.

Punctuality

In respect of other students' schedule, lessons will not be prolonged because of a student's late arrival. Students are to make it to their lesson on time. If a teacher runs late beyond his or her control, the choice is on both the student(s) and teacher to either wait and stay longer, make-up the lesson at another time convenient to both student and teacher, or credit the pertinent fee or part thereof. Credited fees may be reapplied for a make-up lesson at a later time closer to the date of the examination

Payment of Tuition Fee

Tuition fee is strictly due prior to or on the day of the first lesson according to the term purchased ( 12, 24 or 48 sessions).  The student may notify the teacher or director in writing if he or she is unable to meet the deadline in order to pay in increments. A form that stipulates 'payment in increments' will be signed by either the student or parent/guardian (if the student is under 21 years of age) as the person responsible for the monthly fee. Any unpaid balances must be paid no later than the fourth week of the month with any amount in arrears accruing into the following months subject to 2% compounded interest per month, unless the student notifies the teacher during the third week of the month and some other agreed terms are met.

Monthly Billing

Although a more expensive alternative, students may opt for calendar - monthly or 4 session billing, due prior to the ensuing session.

Primary and Secondary Day of Lessons

After registration, the student normally nominates a primary day per week to schedule a lesson. A secondary day is also stipulated in case the student needs a make up lesson. Both student and teacher may change between the primary and secondary days by giving sufficient notice to each other of no less than 48 hours ahead of time and whenever there is availability.

Primary and Secondary Teachers

The primary teacher normally works with a secondary teacher and at times they swap roles for longer or shorter periods of time. The secondary teacher is such by name only but carries at least the same level of qualifications as the primary teacher. They are in charge of specific subject/curriculum units and may at times share one or more units of instruction if necessary.

Replacement Teachers

The primary teacher normally works with a secondary teacher and at times they swap roles for longer or shorter periods of time. The secondary teacher is such by name only but carries at least the same level of qualifications as the primary teacher. They are in charge of specific subject/curriculum units and may at times share one or more units of instruction if necessary.

Students who purchased calendar-monthly or 4 session lessons may cancel agreement with at least 1 full calendar month's notice in advance..

Pending Failure

Three (3) calendar month's written notice is given to a student who is deemed by the teacher as 'failing' for being unable to meet the criteria of assessment administered by the examinations board. The student may opt to partake in the examination at a later date provided by the board and forfeit the examination's fee (unless the examinations board has provisions to re-enter the student with a nominal fee).
